Black and Gold Tachi
Description
Black and Gold Tachi Sword
A remarkable blend of traditional Japanese sword craftsmanship and opulent design. This tachi, with its magnificent black and gold color scheme and intricate details, is designed for collectors, martial artists, and enthusiasts who value both aesthetics and functionality. Unlike the katana, which is worn edge-up, the tachi is traditionally worn edge-down.
Koshirae of the Black and Gold Tachi
The koshirae, or fittings, of the Black and Gold Tachi are crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The tsuba (guard) features intricate dragon motifs in gleaming gold, symbolizing power and protection. These designs are not only visually striking but also provide practical protection for the wielder’s hand during use.
The handle (tsuka) is wrapped in a traditional black silk cord over white ray skin, creating a striking contrast that highlights the sword’s elegant design. The detailed menuki (ornaments under the wrap) and the fuchi-kashira (pommel and collar) are crafted with precision, adding subtle elegance and ensuring a secure grip. The saya (scabbard) is finished in a glossy black lacquer with gold flecks, providing a luxurious look that complements the blade and handle. The sageo (cord) is intricately tied, adding to the sword's regal appearance.

How the Black and Gold Tachi is forged
This iconic Japanese sword is traditionally forged using a meticulous and time-intensive process. The blade is typically made from a combination of iron sands and charcoal that has been smelted in a traditional furnace. The steel is then repeatedly heated, folded, and hammered to remove impurities and create a strong, durable blade with a sharp edge.
The resulting sword is not only a functional weapon, but also a work of art that embodies the rich cultural history of Japan.
